Definition Of Gain Sharing:

gain sharing An employment arrangement in which an employee benefits from his or her contribution to improved performance of the organization.
For example, a hospital might offer physicians a share of any cost reductions in patient care attributable to actions taken by physicians. Gain sharing attempts to motivate employees through financial rewards.Case Study The Government Travel Savings Program is a gain-sharing arrangement that rewards federal government employees who save money while on official travel. In general, the cash awards equal 50% of the savings on lodging expenses and/or contract carrier airfare. For example, government employees who stay with relatives or friends and avoid lodging expenses while on official travel receive one-half of the allowed maximum lodging rate. Employees who obtain a free coach-class ticket using their own frequent flyer benefits are also eligible for a reward based on the government contract rate or, if no contract rate is in effect, the lowest available nonrestricted coach fare. Rewards earned under the program are subject to federal, state, and local taxation.
